MEEN PEERA / FISH DRY CURRY

Its  a traditional kerala dish mostly prepared in Kottayam district...actually i belong to Thrissur...one of my neighbour who was from Kottayam said this type of preparation...So my husband too encouraged me for this type of preparation as its very healthy way....for first time he only prepared this and came out fantastic...Normally seen that Natholi/ small fishes is used for this type of preparation..but i used to make almost all kind of fish..Today i used chala/ mathi /sardine for this...just take care of the small bones.....as this is healthy way of cooking, u can choose any fish...its so tasty!!!!

Ingredients:


1. Chaala/ Mathi / Sardine
6 nos
2. Shallots  
6- 8 nos
3. Garlic pods  
4 nos
4. Green chillies
3 nos
5. Grated coconut
1/4 cup
6. Tamarind    
abt a 1/2 lemon size
7. Red Chilli pwd    
1/2 tsp
8.Salt  
to taste
9. Oil  
1 tblsp
10.Turmeric pwd  
1/4 tsp
11.Water
1/4 cup
12. Curry leaves  
2 stems




Method :   

1. Dissolve the tamarind in 1/4 cup of water for 10 minutes, and once it gets softened , using the hands press the tamarind and make the pulp...

2. Clean and wash the fish ,remove the unwanted parts and in clay pot, take the tamarind pulp, add fish, tumeric pwd, and salt and cook in med heat..as the fish doesnt needs much time to cook, in btw, flip the fish...when the water gets drained out completely switch off the  stove.... 
 


3. Remove the pin bones of the fish and get the fillets only....
 4. Crush the shallots and garlic pods...




5. In a kadai, heat oil, add the crushed items, curry leaves and green chillies ...saute well...
 6.When this changes the colour to light brown, add the fillets to it...and saute




7. While that time, crush the grated coconut and redchilli pwd and add to the kadai...and saute it for few minutes...
